Overview
The Episcopal Supervisor of Missions and Outreach serve as co-laborer in ministry with the Presiding Bishop and is custodian of the Church’s ministries of compassion, service, and outreach. The Supervisor’s office embodies the Church’s heart and is best understood as the place where mission meets mercy, and faith meets function.
Rooted in the theology of servant leadership, this office ensures that the Church’s outreach remains connected to both spiritual and social transformation. The Supervisor is particularly tasked with providing oversight to the Women’s Missionary Society* (WMS) and the Young People’s & Children’s Division (YPD), the Christian Debutante Masters Commission (CDMC), and the clergy family of Minister’s Spouses, Widows And Widower’s Organization + Preacher’s Kids (MSWAWO+PKs), guiding their initiatives across the Episcopal District.

Primary Responsibilities
- Missionary Oversight: To supervise and coordinate the activities of the Women’s Missionary Society and related auxiliaries dedicated to service, benevolence, and humanitarian outreach.
- Spiritual Nurture: To offer spiritual guidance and formation to the members of the AME Church, ensuring that mission and ministry are grounded in prayer, faith, and compassion.
- Programmatic Development: To design, launch, and evaluate mission-driven initiatives that address both community upliftment and the spiritual growth of members.
- Leadership Mentorship: To mentor young leaders for future service in the Church and society, ensuring continuity and empowerment across generations.
- Representation and Advocacy: To represent the Episcopal District at Connectional and Ecumenical gatherings and to serve as the voice of advocacy for empowerment and equity within the Church’s ministry context.
Scope and Function
The Supervisor’s office complements the episcopal vision through ministries of presence, compassion, and practical impact. Operating in tandem with the Presiding Prelate, it serves as the heart of missionary outreach — ensuring that the Church’s witness is not confined to worship but extends to works of love and justice.
Together, the Bishop and Supervisor embody the fullness of episcopal partnership: head and heart, governance and grace — one mission, one service, one calling.
