Leadership in the A.M.E. Church
Dr. Susan Jones Leath currently serves as the WMS Supervisor for the 16th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, which encompasses the Caribbean and Europe. Her leadership experience also includes previous appointments as Supervisor in the 13th Episcopal District (2012-2021), covering Tennessee and Kentucky, and in the 19th Episcopal District (2008-2012), located in the Republic of South Africa.

Commitment to Health and Wellness
Dr. Leath is deeply committed to encouraging, promoting, and discussing health issues, particularly within the faith community. Her concern for preventive health stems from a spiritual foundation, informed by the scripture 1 Corinthians 6:19: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?” This belief guides her ongoing efforts to address and advocate for preventive health measures.

Educational Background and Family
Dr. Leath was born and raised in Worthington, Ohio, and is an alumna of Yale University (BS) and The Medical College of Pennsylvania (MD). She is married to Jeffrey N. Leath, 128th bishop of The African Methodist Episcopal Church. They are the parents of three children: the Reverend Jennifer S. Leath, Ph.D.; Victoria N. Leath; and Jeffrey N. Leath, II (Shamaiah). The family also includes three grandchildren: Lamai, Jade, and Truitt.

Professional Practice and Church Involvement
Dr. Leath is affiliated with an active family medicine practice located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, recognized by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its commitment to high-quality standards. Beyond her medical responsibilities, she is a member of Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia, where her participation is influenced by her mother’s longstanding dedication to the Women’s Missionary Society and Church School. Dr. Leath regularly contributes as a leader in a church school class.

Outside of her professional and church commitments, Dr. Leath pursues gardening (following her father’s inspiration), and actively engages in Line Dancing as a means of exercise and fellowship.
